In September of 2011, we answered a question concerning the difference of CLF light bulbs and incandescent bulbs. In the article we brought to our readers attention that the Department of Energy would be enacting new energy standards starting in January, 2012 and one of those energy standards was the phase out of incandescent light bulbs. As an update, the old favorite standby incandescent light bulb as of last week has won a pardon or amnesty or even a stay of execution as one might say. As of January 1, 2012 light bulb manufacturers were going to be forced to turn out light bulbs that used 28 percent less power while maintaining the same light as a 100-watt incandescent bulb. The 75-watt bulb was going to fall under these energy standards starting in 2013 and the 60-watt and 40-watt bulbs had to conform in 2014. The reprieve was due to a change of heart by Congress and bulb manufacturers will be forced to comply in October of 2012. It is still important to start to use CLF’s as they save energy and the lifespan is much longer.
