We are considering installing a tile roof.  What are the benefits?

Clay or concrete roof tiles appear to have it all – good looks, fire-resistance and they are extremely durable.  There is a higher cost of installing a clay roof vs. asphalt roof shingles.  If you are replacing a shingle roof with a tile roof, you must obtain an engineer to confirm that the roof truss system is adequate to support the tile roof load.
